Support Jemma Juckes in Her Battle Against Cancer
UPDATE DECEMBER 2024:
It's with a heavy heart that we let you know sadly Jemma passed away earlier this week. Thanks to your support, Jemma was able to reach her fundraising target and access a trial treatment specifically targeting the rare EGFR exon20 mutation of her stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. The groundswell of support from Jemma's local Glenorie community, and of kind-hearted strangers, gave Jemma and her family much-needed hope and encouragement at a time when they needed it most.
Jemma's family is discussing the best way to use the remaining funds donated to support Jemma, to honour her legacy and have a lasting impact for other people diagnosed with cancer.
Meet Jemma Juckes, a 34-year-old warrior from Glenorie. She’s married to the love of her life, Lang, and is a proud stepmum to Riley and a fur-mum to their beloved dog, George. Jemma’s zest for life is evident in her love for adventure, nature, and the great outdoors. She cherishes every moment spent with family, enjoys good food, and has a passion for travel. Known for her caring and compassionate nature, Jemma is a much-loved member of her community, bringing warmth and light to everyone she meets.
Before her diagnosis, Jemma and Lang had dreams of starting their own family, a future filled with even more love and joy. Jemma also dedicated nine years to running Glenorie Pizzeria, a beloved local spot that became a cornerstone of the community. However, when she received her diagnosis, Jemma made the brave decision to sell the business to focus entirely on her fight against cancer.
In April 2023, Jemma’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer with an EGFR exon20 mutation. What began as sciatica pain led to the discovery of tumours on her spine, and ultimately, her full diagnosis. Since then, Jemma has faced this battle head-on, enduring multiple rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and even participating in a trial drug program.
Recently, Jemma was offered access to a new trial drug, Amivantamab specifically targeted at her rare mutation. However, this life-saving treatment comes at an overwhelming cost—around $10,000 per session, with sessions required every fortnight for as long as the drug remains effective.
We are reaching out to ask for your help. Our goal is to raise a year’s worth of treatment to give Jemma the best chance at continuing her courageous fight. Your support could make all the difference in Jemma’s journey, allowing her to focus on what matters most: spending precious time with her loved ones and continuing to bring joy to those around her.
Please consider donating to Jemma’s fund. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, brings us closer to giving Jemma the gift of time and hope.
Thank you for standing with Jemma in her fight against cancer.
